Success

At this point in my life, I can safely assume that I’m approaching a major crossroad ahead of me. I’m about to venture into the ‘real world’ once I graduate college… The thing is I still do not know what I want. I think I want to be a Chef, I want to study culinary; but is that really my calling? Am I for cooking? I want to be a psychologist/psychiatrist; for I want to mingle and talk to people. I want to be my boss. I don’t want to be another’s employee so I want my own business; but what business? Where would I excel? Also want to be a writer. Someday, I want to write my own book. And inspired by Matt LeBlanc (Joey on the sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S.), I want to be an actor. But fortunately, I don’t have acting-skills; and I was never active on school plays and the like. I don’t see me doing anything in 10 years. Does that mean I’m bound to pass-away in less than 10 years? Or, I would still be the loser that I am today? Success; is it for me? Would I be successful in the thing that I do which I still have no idea what it is at the moment?

Mr. Webster defines “Success” as “the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence”. I think that if you be trapped in that kind of mindset that Mr. Webster created as the meaning of success, you will be pressured in all the things that you do. You will strive for riches, fame, and power. For that is your definition of success. You stuck by the teachings of the book. And now, you live the book… The book is only there for guidance, you make your own life’s meaning. You will bring meaning to your life. You won’t find it in any dictionary, thesaurus, or encyclopedia… not even in the internet. Yes, known “successful people” are rich, famous, and powerful. But that doesn’t mean you have to be like them.

You can be rich in knowledge, affluent in love; famous for being generous, helpful, and the like; and powerful because of your positive influence to other people. You don’t have to be the President of a company; the President of your country. You only have to be righteous, passionate, God-fearing, and love what you do- whatever that may be. In your own way, you can also be successful. It doesn’t matter if you’re a gardener, a janitor, a waiter, a doctor, a teacher, a rollercoaster operator; as long as you love what you do, you can be successful in the field that you chose. Success is innate.

I still may not know what I want at the moment, but I’m sure, I’ll be doing what I love. Not for the money, that’s just my consolation; but for glory. (lol)

After soul-searching, I found my own meaning of ‘Success’. Success for me is not measured by achievement; it is measured by fulfillment. =)
